David Edbrooke

 

David Edbrooke is a Consultant in Intensive Care at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. Having a keen interest in the costs of intensive care and other related research areas, David founded MERCS and subsequently became Managing Director. At present, David’s main role involves participation on the steering committee for the SAPS III project ‘From the Evaluation of the Individual Patient to the Evaluation of the ICU.’ He is also involved in numerous National and International Working Groups. David is on the editorial board of the medical journal “Complete Nutrition”, launched in January 2001.

 

 

Gary Mills

 

Gary Mills is a Consultant in Intensive Care at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield and is a Senior Lecturer in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Sheffield University. Gary’s research training began with a PhD in Respiratory Related Aspects of Intensive Care at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. At present Gary’s main role has been in researching the effect of diseases, including critical illness, on respiratory muscle strength, and the development of non-invasive imaging and modelling of the lungs in critically ill patients. Gary is an editor of the British Journal of Anaesthesia’s Continuing Postgraduate Education Journal.

 

 

Sandy Smith

 

Sister Sandy Smith qualified as an S.R.N. in 1969, gained a 2:1 BA (Honours) Degree in Health Care Practice in 1996 and is currently undertaking a PhD looking at the Outcomes of Adult Intensive Care Patients. Sandy has a wide experience in A&E, Medical and Surgical areas. Sandy became involved in Research in 1977 specialising in Renal patients, Cardiac and A&E. this role developed into Clinical Trials Co-ordinator in the UK and subsequently into European and Drug studies within the Critical Care Environment.

 

 

Nick Faulks

 

Nick Faulks is an IT Specialist with over 25 years experience. Following a number of years in the Business sector, Nick became a Project Manager for a major internatonal developer of Medical Software. This role developed to incorporate Customer Relations and Support. Nick joined the MERCS team in 2003 to co-ordinate the Critical Care National Cost Block Programme.
